These polls are likely the result of dems' lies that voting against Manchin/Toomey is synonymous with voting against background checks. I wonder how the results would differ if the respondents were informed up front that there was an alternate background check amendment introduced by Sen. Coburn (Manchin's original putative co-sponsor, with whom he refused to compromise) that was blocked from even being voted on by Senate Democrats.

The complete disregard of those who are in disadvantage is also palpable. We are not looking at an isolated incident of rhetoric or research. Others subscribe to motivating people to action by stating, “In California, a majority of all Hispanic births are illegitimate. That’s a lot of Democratic voters coming.” The discourse that moves the Republican Party is filled with this anti-immigrant movement and overall radicalization that is far removed from reality. Another quick example beyond the immigration debate happened during CPAC this year when a supporter shouted ““For giving him shelter and food for all those years?” while a moderator explained how Frederick Douglass had written a letter to his slave master saying that he forgave him for “all the things you did to me.” I think you get the idea.

This third film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic 1925 novel was one of the most hyped movies of the summer of 1974. Robert Redford stars as self-made millionaire Jay Gatsby who uses his vast (and implicitly ill-gotten) fortune to buy his way into Long Island society. Most of all Gatsby wants to win back the love of socialite Daisy Buchanan (Mia Farrow) now married to old money Tom Buchanan (Bruce Dern). Calmly observing the passing parade is Nick Carraway (Sam Waterston) Gatsby's best friend who narrates the film. Francis Ford Coppola's screenplay is meticulously faithful to the original novel but Theoni Aldridge's costume design and Nelson Riddle's nostalgic musical score won the film its only Oscars. The huge supporting cast includes Howard da Silva who played Tom Wilson in the 1949 Great Gatsby and a very young Patsy Kensit as Daisy's daughter.

Michelle Knight's grandmother, Deborah Knight, said she had not yet heard from police but was waiting for some kind of verification that one of the women is really her granddaughter. Although Michelle Knight was reported missing more than a decade ago, family members concluded that she probably left on her own because she was angry that her son was removed from her custody, the grandmother said. She said her daughter believed she had last seen Michelle Knight several years ago in a van with an older man at a shopping plaza on West 117th Street.
